What is Easy Mode?

Easy Mode is HausMoney’s built-in automatic payment (AutoPay) feature.

  • Easy Mode ON (Recommended): Your card balance is automatically paid off every night using funds from your HausMoney account. You never have to worry about missing a payment or manually approving card transactions.

  • Easy Mode OFF: You control when your payments are made. You can pay your balance manually early at any time, or wait to pay it by your monthly statement due date.

You can turn Easy Mode on or off at any time directly in your app settings under Profile & Settings > Payment Settings.

Understanding Your Balances

To help you keep track of your money and card usage, your HausMoney app shows three key amounts:

Term

What It Means

Spending Limit

The maximum card balance ceiling supported by your HausMoney account funds. Most of it will be funded by your tips!

Available to Spend

The amount you currently have left to spend on your card (Spending Limit minus your unpaid purchases).

New Balance

Visible only when Easy Mode is disabled

The total amount you currently owe for card purchases that have settled but have not yet been paid off.

Behind the Scenes: How Your Funds Move

To ensure your account stays balanced and your card works smoothly, HausMoney uses a process called a nightly sweep:

  1. When you make a purchase: Your Available to Spend amount immediately goes down by the purchase amount.

  2. Every night: HausMoney safely moves ("sweeps") the exact dollar amount of your day's purchases from your main account into a secure holding balance.

    • This ring-fences your money so that your main account balance always accurately reflects what you actually have left to spend or transfer out.

What happens next depends on your Easy Mode setting:

  • If Easy Mode is ON: That same night, the swept funds are automatically applied to pay off your card balance. Your New Balance drops back to $0, and your Spending Limit and Available to Spend realign automatically.

  • If Easy Mode is OFF: The swept funds remain securely held for you. Because those funds are already set aside, no new money leaves your account when you make a payment. Tapping "Pay Now" simply applies the funds already held to clear your card balance.

Managing Payments with Easy Mode OFF

If you choose to turn Easy Mode off:

  1. Daily Reminders: You’ll receive a daily email notification whenever you have an outstanding card balance, encouraging you to log into the app.

  2. Paying Early: You can log into the app at any time and select Make a Payment to pay off your outstanding balance using your held funds.

  3. Statement Due Dates: Any balance not paid early will be listed on your monthly statement and must be paid by the statement due date.

  4. Account Delinquency:

    • If a balance remains unpaid 30 days past your statement due date, your HausMoney card will be temporarily paused.

    • If a balance remains unpaid at 90 days, the account will be closed, and your held funds will be automatically applied to cover the remaining balance in full.

Transaction Statuses Explained

When you view your transaction history in the app, each card purchase will move through up to three distinct stages:

  • Pending: Your card purchase has been authorized by the merchant but hasn't fully settled yet. (The final amount could still change slightly, such as when adding a restaurant tip).

  • Outstanding: Your purchase has settled with the merchant and is waiting to be paid off.

    • If Easy Mode is ON: Transactions only stay in Outstanding for a brief period before the nightly payoff occurs.

    • If Easy Mode is OFF: Transactions stay Outstanding until you manually pay them or turn Easy Mode back on.

  • Paid: The held funds have been successfully applied to your card balance. Once a transaction is marked as Paid, it is permanently settled.

Note: Other account movements like deposits, ACH transfers out, and refund credits do not display these purchase lifecycle statuses.
